Game Of Thrones bosses David Benioff and Dan Weiss have reassured fans that the final season won’t spoil anything coming up in the books.
The pair have been in constant contact with George RR Martin about his vision for the Westeros saga, and decided to do some things differently in season eight.
Benioff explained: ‘The concern used to be that the books would spoil the show for people — and luckily it did not, for the most part.
‘Now that the show is ahead of the books, it seems the show could ruin the books for people. So one thing we’ve talked to George about is that we’re not going to tell people what the differences are, so when those books come out people can experience them fresh.’
Weiss added to Entertainment Weekly: ‘The show has become so different [in recent seasons] that people will have no way of knowing from watching what will or won’t appear in the books. And honestly, neither do we.’
Martin, who wrote the A Song Of Ice And Fire book series, has also said that it is still totally worth buying the next instalment The Winds Of Winter.
He told Rolling Stone: ‘I’ve been so slow with these books. The major points of the ending will be things I told them five or six years ago. But there may also be changes, and there’ll be a lot added.’
The author previously admitted he had ‘mixed feelings’ about Game Of Thrones ending, saying: ‘It’s been an incredible ride. And almost all of it has been great.
‘Obviously, I wished I finished these books sooner so the show hadn’t gotten ahead of me. I never anticipated that.’
A Dance With Dragons, the latest GoT book to come out, ended with Jon Snow’s murder which happened back in season five on our screens.
Game Of Thrones returns 14 April on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
