Many loyal fans of the program are still troubled by the controversy surrounding Game of Thrones season 8. Though HBO’s commercially successful mint stopped filming nearly five years ago, discussions about it have not stopped. And some of these discussions are quite violent, especially the ones online. The Game of Thrones showrunners aren’t unaware of that, but they haven’t met anyone who has expressed that anger in person.
Game of Thrones showrunners have only met nice fans
Though the outrage against the Game of Thrones final season was unlike anyone had ever seen before, it was much less in real life. There was even a petition to get it remade. Showrunner D. B. Weiss revealed in a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter, “There’s an underlying decency when people acknowledge you as a person and vice versa. There’s something that happens in the transition from human interaction to online that pushes things in a specifically aggro direction.”

Even positive feedback made the showrunners feel on edge
It’s not like everyone hated the finale of Game of Thrones, there were a few who liked it a lot. However, even praise didn’t seem to sit well with the showrunners after that infamous controversy. Weiss said, “Even super positive feedback makes you feel weird and teeth-grindy and on edge. There’s a drug quality to the feedback, and as soon as we went cold turkey — the last time I googled myself was in 2013 — the ambient stress level in our lives dropped by about 50 percent overnight.”
