In the summer of 2024, House of the Dragon will debut its second season, with much anticipation among fans. The prequel to Game of Thrones introduces a plethora of new characters from Westeros’ past, based on George R.R. Martin’s novel “Fire and Blood”.
However, there are some who haven’t even watched the first season of House of the Dragon, including the Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
David Benioff and D. B. Weiss avoided House of the Dragon
After the Game of Thrones Season 8 mishap, it is understandable why the widely known showrunners would want to stay away from anything related to the series. Hence when House of the Dragon was launched, Benioff and Weiss chose to stay away from it.
As confirmed in an interview with Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd, the Game of Thrones showrunners “haven’t watched Dragon” yet. Moreover, Benioff refused to watch a Thrones episode since the finale.

Game of Thrones showrunners turned down spinoff credits
Whenever a renowned show gets a spinoff, the production makes sure to credit the original creators. However, this was not the case with Benioff and Weiss. Weiss explained the reason behind that in an interview,
“I don’t think there is such a thing as free money. For us, if our name is on it, especially that, while being completely detached and uninvolved, it felt like the strain that would come with that hands-off approach — with its success or failure or anything in between — was not worth it.”
