Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner accidentally set the world alight when she revealed her inked nod to her beloved Sansa Stark, which bizarrely cooked up all sorts of fan theories, with thousands accusing the 22-year-old of ‘ruining’ the final run.
The tattoo on her arm featured a dire wolf with the hopeful text: ‘The pack survives’, which, in turn, led to speculation that despite popular opinion, the Starks would be the last crew standing.
Obviously Sophie shut all the rumours down immediately, but even so she admitted unveiling her latest artwork wasn’t the best idea she’s ever had.
‘I remember, a few years ago, I dyed my hair blonde for another role that I was doing. Everyone thought I was a Targaryen all of a sudden,’ Sophie told Digital Spy.
‘So they’ve used a couple of the slightest things [to form fan theories]. But it’s actually really exciting. It keeps the excitement going, and it keeps people guessing.’
She continued: ‘Game of Thrones is all about theories. So the more we can conjure up, the better it is. The more exciting it makes it, the more unpredictable it makes it. But yeah, definitely that tattoo was probably not a good idea, because everyone thought that I’d given away the end. But I haven’t. It’s a quote from last season.’
Appearing on James Corden’s The Late, Late Show two weeks ago, Sophie told the host that even her nearest and
dearest warned her against the tattoo because the backlash was inevitable.
‘When I was getting it done, people advised me not to because it looked like I was giving it away. But I wasn’t!’ she stressed. ‘It’s just a quote from last season, but everyone figures that the pack really does survive.’
As it stands, fans don’t really know anything about season eight, other than Kit Harington has kept Jon Snow’s hair and Jaime Lannister will be sporting a beard.
And it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting anymore than that until Game of Thrones returns to HBO next April.
