Note: The following contains spoilers for the Game of Thrones series finale, ‘The Iron Throne’.

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is opening up about where her character Sansa Stark ended up in last week’s series finale ‘The Iron Throne’.

While critics and fans alike had gripes about where some of the most important characters were left in the last-ever episode (why is Arya suddenly leaving her family again, for example?), one of the most universally-loved plot developments was Sansa ending up as Queen of an independent North.

Turner recently opened up about her character’s fate exclusively to Digital Spy, admitting that any other fate for Sansa would have felt like a letdown.

“I wouldn’t have been annoyed, but I might have been a little disappointed,” she said. “The thing about Game of Thrones is that not every character gets what they want.”

Turner was chatting to us along with her X-Men: Dark Phoenix co-star Jessica Chastain, who pointed out that the twists of fate in Game of Thrones were just “like life”.

“Like life,” Turner agreed. “So I wouldn’t have been shocked if Sansa didn’t end up where she wanted with the people she wanted to rule over and all of that.

“But I’m very happy that she did end up that way, it’s like the perfect ending for my character, I was so happy.”

Turner previously also acknowledged that she was grateful to end up with “the most satisfying ending” of anyone on the show.
