Game of Thrones star Thor Bjornsson has announced the tragic news that his baby daughter was born stillborn.
The actor, who played The Mountain in George RR Martin’s series, shared the tragic news on social media alongside his wife Kelsey Henson.
They wrote: ‘T.W stillbirth/delayed miscarriage. It is with great sorrow that we announce the birth of our daughter, Grace Morgan Hafthorsdottir born Nov 8th at 21 1/2 weeks gestation.
‘After a noticeable decrease in movement we found out her heart had stopped beating.
‘Words cannot describe our pain of this loss or our happiness at being able to spend time with our daughter.
‘She is absolutely beautiful, with blonde lashes and brows and a little smile for mom and dad.’
The couple, who also share a son, went on: ‘The love we feel for her is overwhelming. The grief we feel will be with us forever but so will the love.
‘All of our hopes and dreams for her have been taken away from us but I know I will be with her again.
‘Her spirit lives on through us and her siblings. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time as we grieve this unbearable loss. Thank you all for any kind words and support.’
They were showered in love and support after posting pictures holding their daughter, as well as introducing their young son to her.
Ashley Cain, who tragically lost his own daughter Azaylia at just eight months old, was amongst those sharing his condolences, writing: ‘I am so sorry to hear this brother. My love, strength and heartfelt condolences go to you and your family during this time. May your little princess rest in eternal paradise.’
Bjornsson, whose real name is Hafpór Júlíus Bjornsson, is an Icelandic professional strongman, and holds numerous records, including being the first and only person to win the Arnold Strongman Classic, the Europe’s Strongest Man and the World’s Strongest Man in the same year.
The 34-year-old played Ser Gregor Clegane, also known as The Mountain, for five seasons of Game of Thrones.
In March this year, he was inducted into the Internal Sports Hall of Fame.
