Game of Thrones star confirmed to appear in Doctor Who s12 finale

Doctor Who has recruited one of Daenerys Targaryen’s most trusted advisors to appear in the series 12 finale.

Former Game of Thrones star Ian McElhinney — who played Ser Barristan Selmy in the HBO show — will be encountering the TARDIS Fam in the two-parter, now confirmed to be called ‘Ascension of the Cybermen’ and ‘The Timeless Children’.

This two-part finale will find The Doctor, Yaz, Graham and Ryan facing their “biggest and most dangerous challenges yet” when a massive Cyberman battle “across a big distance from space” unfolds.

Joining them in the episode will be fellow guest star Steve Toussaint, well known for his recent appearance in Deep Water as well as Mutant Chronicles and The Knock.

Aside from his own heroic years in Game of Thrones, McElhinney has also starred in The Fall and Krypton.

“I very much enjoyed my time on Doctor Who,” McElhinney said. “The team were a delight to work with and everyone was very supportive and welcoming. All in all, it was a blast.”

Toussaint added: “It was an honour to play a part in the giant of British (and World) TV that is Doctor Who. What’s not to like? I had such a great time working with Jodie and ‘the Fam’; another one off the bucket list!”

There is no word yet on who either actor will be playing, though we think either would perfect for a new Cyber-Leader. Episode titles ‘Ascension of the Cybermen’ and ‘The Timeless Children’ do hint that fans will finally get some answers on the mystery of the Timeless Child.
