The One Show is no stranger to an awkward unique interview, and hosts Gethin Jones and Alex Scott were treated to another classic moment on the BBC One programme on Wednesday (November 3) when Mackenzie Crook recreated his own mini studio.

The former Game of Thrones and The Office star appeared on the show via video link (Alex and Gethin were a bit of a way away hosting the show from Glasgow to coincide with COP26), but pulled out all the stops to make things seem like he was really there.

Crook’s makeshift set was complete with a little body to rest his head on (his actual body was hidden behind a black curtain), as well as a little desk complete with The One Show mug and cards. On his right was the iconic The One Show TV screen with the logo and everything. Seriously. No expense was spared here.

Probably more used to seeing everyone’s hastily-tidied backroom as the backdrop (hey, no judgement, we all did it in lockdown), Gethin was a little taken aback when he spotted Mackenzie’s makeshift attempt on the screen behind him.

“Oh my goodness,” the former rugby player said with a laugh as Mackenzie lifted his tiny arm to say hello and Alex let out an impressed: “Wow.”

“I felt sad I wasn’t able to make it up to Glasgow and I wanted to feel like I was in the studio,” the actor explained with his signature straight face. “So I dug out the old silver suit to see if it still fits, and, guess what? It does!” he smiled.

The actor, who appeared on the show to promote his role in Worzel Gummidge, then continued to do the pretty bizarre interview as normal, using the teenie arms as he would his own.

But things went a little awry when the star attempted to have a sip from his mug of tea, accidentally sending the liquid flying everywhere as he flailed his tiny hand around.

Oh well. You can’t win ’em all.

The One Show airs on BBC One.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
