Jessica Henwick, one of the stars of the upcoming Knives Out sequel, has teased that “fans will be happy” with Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

A sequel to the 2019 movie was quickly greenlit after the commercial and critical popularity of the original movie, which starred James Bond actor Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc.

In an interview with Radio Times, Game of Thrones and Marvel star Henwick said: “I’m a fan of the first one and I think fans will be happy.”

“Daniel was back and Benoit has his style and his flair that is very specific to this film series, and yeah, it’s gonna hit all the same fun beats. It’s such a ride,” Henwick added.

Knives Out gained popularity thanks to Johnson’s zany, hilarious and clever script, plus its stacked cast including Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette and LaKeith Stanfield. Now, Henwick has said that the sequel’s script is equally smart.

“The script was a brick. When it came in, it’s like… I don’t even remember, it’s very, very long. So I was turning the pages trying to figure it out,” Henwick recalled.

“But I know Rian was so clever, I knew there was no way I was going to figure it out before he wanted me to.”

The cast for Glass Onion also matches the star power of its predecessor. The film, which comes out later this year, stars Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista and Janelle Monáe alongside Henwick and the returning Craig.

“We spent a month together in Greece and then a month together in Serbia, the first month doing exteriors and the second one doing interiors,” Henwick said.

“And we all lived down the road from each other, and we’re in every scene together. So it was very intense, but an incredible bonding experience with some super talented actors.”

Aside from Craig as Benoit Blanc, it has not been confirmed who the various actors will play, but expect a bunch of colourful characters in the same vein as the first movie.

Henwick has already had experience starring in popular franchises. She played Nymeria Sand in eight episodes of Game of Thrones and starred as Colleen Wing in a trio of Netflix Marvel shows: Iron Fist, The Defenders and Luke Cage. She also played Bugs in 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections and featured in the minor role of Jessika Pava in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The movie follows an all-new murder mystery for Craig’s Benoit Blanc to solve and will release on Netflix following its premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Knives Out is available to rent or buy now on DVD, Blu-ray or as a digital download – and its sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is on the way for Netflix.
