Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn’s gay bar has suddenly closed down.

The popular nightlife spot in Belfast called Libertine was opened just two years ago by Kristian, who played Hodor in the HBO series, alongside business partner Jim Crawford-Smyth through their company Elwynn Leisure.

The last event was held on October 1 according to the venue’s Instagram, but the website for the venue has already been taken down.

Those trying to get in contact with the venue are receiving an automated email.

It reads: ‘Thank you for messaging. Libertine is now closed.

‘If you are contacting re tickets or a Karaoke Lounge booking, a full refund has already been issued as of Monday 1st October 2023.

‘This is an automated message. Thank you.’

Fans have reacted to the sad news: ‘Tickets cancelled, website is gone, marked as closed on Google, and the queen’s making posts saying goodbye. I’ve not seen anything official but I think it’s safe to say Libertine is gone.’

‘Miss u forever libs x,’ wrote another.

Another person was gutted to learn of the closure: ‘Sad to read this news 🙁.’

This comes just two months after they closed another Northern Ireland bar, Cuckoo.

After six years of operation, they announced that the ‘the cost of living crisis coupled with unsustainable rents, rates and other spiraling costs have forced’ them to resign as tenants of Cuckoo.

Kristian, 47, originally announced the opening of Libertine with a post on social media.

‘We always wanted to open an arcade bar and we did that with Cuckoo Belfast,’ he began.

‘Next on the bucket list was an inclusive LGBTQ+ club – and we have no doubt that Libertine will help make our community even more amazing than it is now! Pop on over and give the page a LIKE!’

The nightlife entrepreneur played Hodor in the first six series of GOT – although, he doesn’t appear on screen during the fifth season. He’s a servant for the house of Stark, who is only able to say one word ‘hodor,’ which becomes what other people refer to him as.

The actor has since compared his character’s eventual ending to when Princess Diana died.

During an interview for a GOT fan site: ‘When you talk about ‘the gay community,’ you are talking about MY community.

‘I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone, my whole life in fact, and I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview,’ he added.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Libertine for comment.
