Game Of Thrones star Liam Cunningham will be honoured next week with the inaugural Lifetime Contribution Award from the Irish Council of Civil Liberties (ICCL).

he actor, who played Davos in the hit fantasy series, will receive the accolade at an event in the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) on March 6 as part of the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival.

Among those also taking part in various events over the next 12 days will be Barry Keoghan, Charlie Kaufman, Bill Nighy, Bob Geldof, Tom Vaughan- Lawlor and Orla Brady.

Featuring the best of Irish and world cinema, among the highlights will be the first look at Promising Young Woman.

Starring Carey Mulligan in the lead role of Cassie, it’s also the directorial debut of Emerald Fennell of Killing Eve fame.

Described as a “thrilling and wildly entertaining story”, it will screen in the Irish Film Institute on March 8, nearly six weeks before it goes on general release on April 17.

As part of the outreach programme, there will also be preview screenings of Cine4’s Irish-language feature Arracht, with a national tour visiting six regional venues ranging from Drogheda to Galway.

Other highlights will be The Mystery Of Henri Pick, Radioactive, Billy and The Hottest August.

The curtain will come down on the festival on March 8 with the announcement of the ICCL Human Rights in Film Award, which celebrates how films showcase social activism.

The judging panel was chaired by Ailbhe Smyth and included designer Brendan Courtney and entrepreneur Andrea Horan.

Nominees for the award include festival films Herself, Street Leagues, Hearts And Bones, Santiago, Italia and Balloon.
