Note: the following article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8.

Game of Thrones star Iain Glen has revealed what Daenerys whispered to Ser Jorah following his character’s tragic death at the Battle of Winterfell.

Ser Jorah heroically gave his life to protect Daenerys in ‘The Long Night’, and in episode four ‘The Last of the Starks’, his body was given a fitting send-off in an emotional funeral scene.

During the scene, just before igniting the wood beneath his corpse, Daenerys – played by Emilia Clarke – leaned over him and whispered something.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Glen has revealed that viewers weren’t supposed to hear what Daenerys said, nor were their fellow cast members.

The stage direction for the scene reads: “Daenerys whispers something to him that he’ll never hear and we’ll never know…”

It was therefore up to Clarke to come up with her own line for the moment, something that only she and Glen will ever know.

Asked if she said something sincere or silly, Glen replied: “It’s something entirely sincere and true to the moment and something that I’ll never forget.”

On whether he’s prepared to deal with fans constantly asking him what she whispered, he said: “Yeah, but you know what? I’ll always cherish it because it’s something no one will ever know but the two of us. And that’s a memory to hold onto.”
