Game of Thrones fans were divided – to put it lightly- by the finale which saw Bran Stark take his seat on the Iron Throne, and raised all sorts of questions – mainly what were the writers thinking?
Among candidates for the most powerful position in Westeros was Sansa Stark, who for many had the greatest journey throughout the fantasy epic’s eight seasons, blossoming from a timid child to a ferocious queen.
However, Sophie Turner has revealed we all overlooked one huge quality of Sansa’s which ruled her out of the running from the very beginning.
Explaining what’s next for Sansa after Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) went off on her cruise, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was banished to the Wall, and Daenerys was slaughtered by her nephew and lover, Sophie told the Los Angeles Times: ‘No wars, no battles. I see her leading until she’s very old.
‘I don’t see her getting married or having children. I think it would be a democratic kind of kingdom. She’d die of old age, very happy.’
‘The fact that she doesn’t want power is also something to be said for her,’ the 23-year-old continued. ‘She only cares about the North.’
Although, Sansa is still steering the ship in the kingdom ruled by her parents Ned and Caitlyn Stark which seemed the most fitting end for the young warrior.
‘[Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] and I spoke about it a lot … the ways people are blinded by power,’ Sophie said. ‘She can spy that in anyone. She’s seen too much; she can’t be [too] vigilant. We always thought she had her head screwed on maybe the best of all the characters.’
Sophie’s had a whirlwind year since wrapping up on Game of Thrones, marrying everyone’s teenage obsession Joe Jonas twice because why wouldn’t you?
Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
