Lena Headey is joining the comedy thriller Svalta in which she and Nick Frost will fight off a serial killer
Lena Headey has been up against some formidable foes in various roles throughout her career. Heck, she had a Dragon Queen coming for her head and there were even Terminators to deal with early on. But her next film might have her in the worst spot yet when she and Nick Frost are stranded on an island with a serial killer stalking them the whole time.
Deadline has it that the flick is Svalta and will star Lena Headey and Nick Frost as a couple who’ve taken their family on vacation to Finland to what they think is a quaint little relaxing spot to kick their feet up. But there’s a serial killer on the loose, though that might not even be their biggest problem.
It seems, according to the movie’s log lines, that the locals are more than happy to have the killer just have his (or her) way with the family. There isn’t going to be any help for Lena Headey and company.
Sound scary? Well, there is definitely going to be some laughs with this movie as well. For Lena Headey, she’s shown enough throughout her career to feel like she has some action comedy chops in her wheelhouse and this next movie could definitely put everything on display.
As Deadline points, out Svalta will reunite Lena Headey and Nick Frost after they starred in Fighting with my Family together back in 2019. In that one, the two were the parents of Florence Pugh and Jack Lowden with the whole family having a wrestling background.
Pugh’s character gets a shot at the WWE while Lowden’s is left behind. It was based on the story of professional wrestler Paige and her brother Zak Zodiac, both of whom were shooting for the same in-ring dream though with decidedly different struggles along the way.
Fighting with my Family earned Lena Headey, Nick Frost, Pugh, and Lowden high marks with critics. The Stephen Merchant-written and directed movie landed at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and even turned in $41.5 million at the box office on just an $11 million budget. Those are solid numbers for this kind of movie which also included Dwayne Johnson in the cast.
Of course, Lena Headey isn’t known for her comedic roles, though she’s been able to dial up the laughs in the right spot before. Her Scarlet character in Gunpowder Milkshake hit the right notes in that action romp about a mother-daughter assassin pair who’ve come at odds over the years.
And of course, there was her complete star turn as Cersei Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones in which she played among the most diabolical and evil characters we’ve seen in some time. Though the cast was stacked with folks to root against. Headey’s Cersei really took the cake when it came to cunning evil and downright sinister plotting. She really became the character and it was a masterpiece of acting.
Svalta will be directed by Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil and is expected to start production sometime this year with a release date sometime in 2023. And Lena Headey will also be making her directorial debut sooner than later as well.
