Game Of Thrones’ stars have proven that fire and ice have nothing on the solid bond of the ground as they came out in force to support Kristofer Hivju after being tested positive for coronavirus.
The actor, who played the beloved warrior Tormund Giantsbane on the fantasy series, announced yesterday on Instagram that he was self-isolating after he was tested positive for the virus.
Sharing a selfie, he wrote: ‘Greetings from Norway! Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Coronavirus. My family and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes.
‘We are in good health – I only have mild symptoms of a cold. [sic].’
Encouraging the public to remain safe and keep practicing good hygiene to help stop the spread of the virus, the 41-year-old continued: ‘There are people at higher risk for who this virus might be a devastating diagnosis, so I urge all of you to be extremely careful.
‘Wash your hands, keep 1,5 meters distance from others, go in quarantine; just do everything you can to stop the virus from spreading.’
He concluded his Instagram post by encouraging his followers to visit their country’s disease controls website and follow all the regulations to stay safe.
The news was met with a barrage of support – starting prominently with his Game Of Thrones castmates.
John Bradley West, who plays Samwell Tarly, wrote: ‘Ah mate. Sending my love to you all. Get well.’
Bella Ramsey, who plays the iconic Lady Lyanna Mormont, added a simple ‘get well soon’, while Melisandre actress Carice Van Houten shared a heart.
Euron Greyjoy star Pilou Asbaek declared him his ‘Scandanavian brother’ with strength emojis to share his well-wishes.
Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) added: ‘ Sending lots of love.’ while Liam Cunningham said: ‘Get Well soon my friend.’
We know you got this, Kristofer!
Kristofer’s diagnosis meant that Netflix’s The Witcher was completely shut down, and the sets require a deep clean before they return.
Filming of the series has been pushed back, with a release date looking likely to now be in 2022.
Other stars that have been infected include Idris Elba, Tom Hanks, and his wife Rita Wilson.
Game Of Thrones is available on Sky Atlantic and Now TV.
