It cannot have escaped anyone’s attention that the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is looming large on the horizon. With the premiere date coming as soon as April 14, not everyone has the time—or the constitution—to rewatch all seven seasons of bloodshed, intrigue, despair, swords, zombies, and dragons, oh my. Or maybe you’re the kind of die-hard fan who has already completed a full re-watch and are now impatiently drumming your fingers waiting for the endgame to start. Either way, Vanity Fair’s Still Watching podcast has you covered. Hosts Richard Lawson and Joanna Robinson are counting down the top 15 most essential episodes to revisit from the last seven seasons.

For every episode of the show, Richard and Joanna have recorded a mini-breakdown of the story as well as conducted an interview with an actor, writer, director, or craftsperson who can give behind-the-scenes insight into how the show was made. In other words, you don’t even have to be re-watching at all in order to enjoy this peek behind the curtain at the biggest show in the world.

The Still Watching hosts have been counting the episodes down in chronological order, starting at the beginning with Season 1, Episode 1, “Winter Is Coming,” and will go all the way up through Season 7 before announcing their choice for the final and most essential episode of Game of Thrones. They’re currently in the midst of Season 4, and you can find every episode they’ve covered so far in the post below.
