If you’ve been missing The Mountain now that Game of Thrones is over, feast your eyes on him at the gym in full-on beast mode.
Not only can he protect Cersei Lannister from any and all danger in King’s Landing as her personal bodyguard, but he can also squat an insane amount of weight in real life. We’re talking over 300 kilograms (um, that’s 661 pounds) — and he’s squatting it like it’s nothing! And doing five reps! He’s making some serious gains in the weight room.
Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson, the actor who plays The Mountain, began competing in strongman competitions when an ankle injury ended his basketball career. At 6’9″ tall and a hefty 417 pounds, since 2009, Hafthór has won seven competitions and currently holds the titles of Iceland’s Strongest Man, Iceland’s Strongest Viking, and Iceland’s Strongest Troll.
This guy is so strong and so massive that the equipment looks like it’s a toy meant for kids on a playground! Someone commented, “There are men and then there are beasts. And then there’s monsters like you 😈.” I think instead of The Mountain, Beast, or Monster, we can think of a few other fitting names, like Savage, Brute, Badass, King of Squats, and Greek God. If we were Cersei, we’d choose The Mountain to protect us, too.
