Is Game Of Thrones’ Arya Stark’s personalised dragonglass weapon a huge clue? (Picture: HBO)

Game Of Thrones’ Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) asked Gendry (Joe Dempsie) to make her a personalised weapon – but was its purpose revealed in previous seasons?

Could there be a much deeper meaning to the function and purpose of the funny looking spear?

In last week’s episode – the very first episode of the eighth and final season – Arya gave Gendry a drawing of the weapon she wanted as Winterfall waited for the Night King and his army of the dead to attack.

The drawing showed a staff Arya wanted to be able to break into two parts, complete with a spear made from Dragonglass at one end and a blade at the other.

In the latest episode, first aired in early hours of Monday, Gendry presented the daughter of the late Ned Stark with her new weapon and it would be no surprise if viewers felt a tinge of nostalgia looking at it.

As fans of the hit fantasy show will remember, Arya has had a very long journey since she fled King’s Landing in season one. In her time she embarked on a residency with the Faceless Men in season five where she met the Waif (Faye Marsay).

The Waif became a villain when she blinded Arya, it was in this era that the young girl became skillful enough to fight in the darkness using a weapon very similar to the design she gave Gendry.

According to a Reddit user the weapon is foreshadowing how Ayra plans on beating the threat to her home town, Winterfell.

Reddit user RonnieBear87 posted a photo of the Waif holding the weapon and pointed out: ‘Arya’s new weapon seems… familiar.’

Arya could find her vision compromised in The Battle of Winterfell, and if this is the case, the people need not fear as she has all the experience.

The Night King could possibly bring about a snowy blizzard, and one fan replied to the theory suggesting it could be predicting a fight in the blackout for Arya and a White Walker.

Reddit user ProgrammerNextDoor asked: ‘Is this foreshadowing her fighting some white walker in the dark?’

BigBacon87 added to theory and posted: ‘She’s gonna lead the white walkers into the crypt and then it’s lights out.’

Later in the episode viewers were stunned when Arya made the decision to have sex for the first time.

Stripping off in front of Gendry she instructed him to ‘take his own bl**dy trousers off’ before hopping into bed.

‘We’re probably going to die soon. I want to know what it’s like before that happens,’ she tells the blacksmith.

After the episode aired, Maisie admitted that she initially thought the scenes were a prank brought on by bestie and on-screen sister Sophie Turner, who read the scripts faster than her.

However, despite the show’s notoriety for nudity, Maisie opted to keep herself covered.

She told Entertainment Weekly: ‘I kept myself pretty private. I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that.’

So what happens now for Arya now it appears that she has a lot more to lose in light of the new episodes airing?

Game Of Thrones continues Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
