A new theory believes the trailer for Game Of Thrones season eight may have revealed a bunch about the fate of characters battling for the Iron Throne.
HBO recently released a special teaser to heighten anticipation for the final season, which showed the map of Westeros as it’s consumed by fire and ice from both sides.
Featured on the map are icons representing each of the Westeros houses – including a Lannister lion, a Stark wolf and a dragon for Daenerys Targaryen.
It’s these icons which have sparked a whole bunch of fan theories about whether it alludes to events in the final season,
As noted by Mashable, it’s been pointed out how each icon was destroyed by differing elements, with the House Stark wolf swallowed by ice, Daenerys’ dragon is then engulfed in ice, while the Lannister lion is covered in fire.
The theory believes this is how each character will die in the show, with Stark homestead Winterfell potentially succumbing to the White Walkers and Daenerys being killed or losing another dragon to the Night King’s army hordes.
The Lannister fire is more open to interpretation, but with Cersei Lannister having revealed her intentions to betray Jon Snow and Daenerys – could this represent King’s Landing being burned by Daenerys via dragon fire?
While the teaser could simply be a cool way of playing on the fire and ice theme, the HBO marketing team are most definitely aware of the show’s ravenous fans who breakdown every detail – so it could be a sneaky tease.
It isn’t the only fan theory to have emerged from the trailer either, with another believing it could foreshadow Daenerys saving the day.
Game Of Thrones season eight is set to arrive in April 2019.
