JON Snow was banished north of The Wall’s ruins in Game of Thrones’ final episode.

The heroic leader, despite all his efforts to save the Seven Kingdoms, was exiled after murdering his former lover Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) after she burned King’s Landing to ashes.

The final shots of Jon, played by Kit Harington, saw him march into the forests alongside the wildings, who were returning home now that the threat of the Night King and the White Walkers had been dealt with.

Many fans were gutted to see Jon robbed of his claim to the throne, given his Targaryen lineage, but then again, he never was one for pomp.

Now Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund on the HBO fantasy drama, has spoken out about what came next for Jon Snow.

Tormund was among those who marched north with Jon, along with former members of the Night’s Watch.

Hivju said that their friendship would have been of great comfort to Jon, given his isolation from his siblings Arya (Maisie Williams), Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) Stark.

“Jon is in a huge depression, so he needs Tormund to cheer him up, by the fire, warming each other,” Hivju told Entertainment Weekly.

Referring to Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) choosing Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) over his on-screen alter ego, he added: “Tormund is pretty heartbroken himself, so maybe they can bond over that.”

Elsewhere, Hivju spoke about bidding farewell to his Game of Thrones co-stars at the SAG Awards earlier this year.

He admitted it felt like the end of an era as the last event where the show had received nominations.

“It hadn’t felt like it’s over – you ended when you wrapped, and then you ended when it airs, and then you ended when there’s some awards shows. But this felt like the last, last thing,” he went on.

As for his time playing Tormund, he noted the importance of having a lighter, funnier character in such a dark series.

“I gave everything to Tormund. I love the direction that the character went, with falling in love and becoming more of a comic relief buddy,” he said.

“He started out as an antagonist on the show and he ended up as a big bear.”

The comments come after Maisie Williams addressed rumours that bosses filmed an alternate ending for Game of Thrones last week.

Elsewhere, fans clashed over an easy-to-miss clue that Jon Snow warged into his direwolf Ghost.
