the beetles that are smashed,by my interpretation,are the humans that suffer in the hands of kings or queens,or soldiers that suffer in the war that wont grant them anything other than mysery.
The scene that keeps appearing as tyrion says ”khun khun khun” is from season 4 episode 10,the bodies of wildlings,night’s watch members and giants that died in the fight,the way it was shot really resembles how little their bodies are,how little the fight they fought meant and is,atleast in my opnion,a good represemtation of the beetles that Orson lannister smashed.
Why did he do it?well,that is up for the viewers imagination,both in my video and the original episode.
