TYRION Lannister reached the end of his tether with Joffrey Baratheon in the original Game of Thrones pitch submitted by George RR Martin.

Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) faced his fair share of humiliation at the hands of the nefarious King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) over the course of his reign.

Be it pouring wine over his head, or removing his plinth during his wedding to Sansa, Joffrey was seemingly on a mission to degrade Tyrion.

Martin originally had planned for the royal adviser, cruelly nicknamed ‘the imp,’ to exact deadly revenge on the boy king.

His original submission read: “Tyrion Lannister will continue to travel, to plot, and to play the game of thrones, finally removing his nephew Joffrey in disgust at the boy king’s brutality.”

Game of Thrones will remember that Joffrey was poisoned by Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg), aptly referred to as ‘the Queen of Thorns,’ at his own wedding.

After Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Joffrey’s father, laid siege to Olenna’s home Highgarden, she delighted in confessing to the assassination.

“I’d hate to die like your son – clawing at my neck, foam and bile spilling from my mouth, eyes blood red, skin purple,” she said.

“Must have been horrible for you, as a Kingsguard, as a father. It was horrible enough for me,” she went on.

“A shocking scene. Not at all what I intended. You see, I’d never seen the poison work before.”

After Joffrey’s death, Tyrion and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) were forced to flee the scene, knowing they would become prime suspects, despite not being involved in the plot.

Elsewhere in Martin’s original pitch, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Arya (Maisie Williams) embarked on a romance, while Sansa betrayed the Starks to bear Joffrey’s child.

Game of Thrones raked in a whopping 32 nominations at this year’s Emmy Awards, bagging the all-important win for Outstanding Drama Series.

Meanwhile Peter Dinklage won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister.
