With the Battle Of Winterfell on our doorstep and hitting screens in a couple days, thoughts from fans turn to theories and premonitions.
Because it’s all we have.
With Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) finding out Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has a claim to the Iron Throne, she’s also getting a little snippy at Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage).
As the Hand Of The Queen, he’s Dany’s right hand man but with the arrival of Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in this week’s episode it was uncovered Tyrion didn’t know too much about what his sister was really planning.
Thus, Daenerys feels a little thwarted, embarrassed and Tyrion’s place is in danger.
While he’s still team Dany now and trusts her, how easily may he turn?
Deputy editor of Watchers On The Wall, Luke Nieto, told Metro.co.uk the risk of Tyrion turning on Dany is there in the next few episodes as we round out season eight.
‘I think that may happen, but not how many expect it to happen,’ he said ominously. ‘There’s a reason we’re being shown Dany’s “fire and blood” qualities shining through this season, but I think these warning signs will ultimately be subverted.
‘If there’s someone who I believe may turn into a darker character, if not necessarily villainous, it’s Tyrion, not Dany.’
On the other hand, though, Tyrion has been on quite the dark journey, as Nieto added, which may lead to a desperate decision that puts him in danger.
That is, if he’s playing on the side we’re rooting for.
‘If you consider what Tyrion has gone through since his trial in season four, not to speak of his murder of Shae and Tywin, it’s been a pretty dark journey,’ he continued.
‘Daenerys may have given him hope and a purpose, but before the story is over I believe he will make a morally compromised (or outright heinous) choice in order to defeat Cersei and/or save the realm against the dead.
‘Tyrion will deem it necessary, and many viewers may agree, but he’ll still be judged for it. Literally: Tyrion has survived two trials, in seasons one and four, for crimes he didn’t commit. If the rule of threes applies here, there may be a third trial for a crime he for once did commit, except he may not come off unscathed this time.’
We’ve said it once and we’ll say it twice: ominous.
Game Of Thrones continues Sunday in the US on HBO and Monday in the UK on Sky Atlantic.
