Game of Thrones is over, but rest assured that we’ll be seeing the Game of Thrones cast members popping up everywhere from now on. There were so many, it’d pretty much be impossible for them not to! Let’s catch up with a few.
First off, a while back we reported that Emilia Clarke would be appearing onstage in London in Anton Chekhov The Seagull. She plays the idealistic ingenue Nina, one of four main characters in Chekhov’s slice-of-life drama.
Now, the Evening Standard reveals that joining Clarke will be fellow Game of Thrones veteran Indira Varma, who will play Irina, a faded actress. “It’s great fun because he’s written quite a monster of a woman but what’s so lovely about Chekhov is no character is one dimensional, they are all human deep down even if they behave badly,” Varma said. “I think we all recognize ourselves in each of the characters, they are all very complex human people and we’ve all got a bit of actor in us.”
Of course, Varma played the duplicitous Ellaria Sand on Thrones, and got to work with Clarke in season 7, when Daenerys partnered with Ellaria in her bid to claim the Iron Throne. “The first season I was in I was lucky because there was a massive wedding so I got to meet loads of people but [Clarke] wasn’t there,” Varma remembered. “She was in Belfast, I think — freezing — and I was in Croatia but a couple of years later, my last season, we were all in cahoots.”
“It’s a lot of fun and it’s really nice to see her [Clarke] because we can have dinner together and be out and about,” Varma continued. “It’s really lovely when you get older and you’ve stuck it out in the profession you meet people again and again but in a different context playing different parts.”
The Seagull will run at The Playhouse Theater in London from March 11 to May 30. You can get tickets here.
Another associate of Daenerys Targaryen’s will shortly be appearing on Doctor Who, as Digital Spy reports that Ian McElhinney (Ser Barristan Selmy) will appear in the two-part season 12 finale, titled “Ascension of the Cybermen” and “The Timeless Children.”
“I very much enjoyed my time on Doctor Who,” McElhinney said. “The team were a delight to work with and everyone was very supportive and welcoming. All in all, it was a blast.”
We don’t know who McElhinney is playing, but seeing him in a big bulky robot suit isn’t out of the question.
Finally, let’s veer away from Game of Thrones for a second and look at what some other stars of popular genre shows are doing. Because yes, there are other actors out there, hard as it is for me to wrap my head around sometimes.
For example, take Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin on Stranger Things. First of all, we congratulate him on undergoing successful surgery to address issues stemming from his cleidocranial dysplasia, a rare genetic disorder that affects bone and teeth growth:
We wish him a speedy recovery. After all, who has time for that when your music video career is getting off the ground? Matarazzo stars in the brand new video for “Meet Me On The Roof,” a new Green Day song:
You know, if interdimensional monsters attacked that middle school dance this video would turn into an episode of Stranger Things real fast.
