Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully) and Hannah Waddingham (Septa Unella) just won their first Emmys for The Crown and Ted Lasso respectively.
Game of Thrones is two years gone, but its cast members are still winning awards. Two just scored their first-ever Emmys: Hannah Waddingham and Tobias Menzies.
Waddingham was the big success story. Before playing football club owner Rebecca Welton on Ted Lasso, she was best known as Septa Unella, aka the Shame Nun, on Game of Thrones. For some she’ll probably always be Septa Unella, but winning an Emmy for her work on Ted Lasso is certainly a great feather in her cap, and richly deserved.
Ted Lasso is currently airing its second season on Apple TV+, but the Emmys are rewarding its first. It’s one of the big new comedies on the block; lead actor Jason Sudeikis also won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

One of the other big winners of the night was The Crown, which has been around for a while. The Netflix show, which traces the life of Queen Elizabeth II over several decades, is in its fourth season. It’s won a boatload of Emmys already and it picked up several more tonight, including an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Tobias Menzies, who plays the role of Prince Philip.
Menzies, Game of Thrones fans will remember, played Catelyn Stark’s sister Edmure Tully, the guy who actually got married at the Red Wedding (and then was imprisoned for nearly the rest of the show, tough break). Like Waddingham, this is his first-ever Emmy!
