Game of Thrones is one of the mos popular shows on the planet, and as such there is no doubt that it is the most pirated one as well. The show has been the most pirated show for the last five years now, and it has now carried the record forward yet another time. Game of Thrones Season 7 had a longer wait than the ones before, and the season touched down on a great number of stress points in the story, naturally, being the beginning of the end of the show. With all that buzz, Game of Thrones has kept the top spot, and was the most pirated show of 2017. Read on!
We had reported earlier that Game of Thrones Season 7 was pirated over a billion times, and the 2017 version of the annual report by TorrentFreak says that the show has held on to its now usual crown of being the most torrented show of the year, for the sixth consecutive year, starting with Season 2.
Game of Thrones is followed by AMC’s The Walking Dead, which has been seeing a drop in viewership lately, but is still watched and torrented more than most other shows. One of the new additions to the list is Rick and Morty, which is famous for its fast growing fanbase that often raises eyebrows for being a little wacky.
TorrentFreak also pointed out that the Season 7 finale was the heaviest of the season :
“Although there was no new swarm record, traffic-wise the interest was plenty. The highest number of people actively sharing an episode across several torrents was 400,000 at its peak, right after the season finale came online.”
There is no doubt that Game of Thrones Season 8 will bring even more viewers, both legal and illegal. However, the show doesn’t return till 2019, which means that Game of Thrones is unlikely to have a spot on this list in 2018. (Unless, of course, there is a giant leak).
