The queen of the Dothraki was at the centre of all the drama throughout the eight series of the HBO fantasy show and for much of it, she had Daario Naharis (played by Michiel Huisman) by her side. He helped her through some of the toughest decisions when it came to ruling the Seven Kingdoms and was on hand to be her occasional lover whenever she needed him. However, after six series as her advisor, Daario Naharis seemed to disappear off the face of the Earth.

What happened to Daario Naharis?

Despite everything the pair had been through together, Daenerys decided it would be best to leave Daario with the Second Sons, the peacekeeping force made up of almost 2,000 armoured cavalry.

Before setting sail for Westeros in the season six finale The Winds of Winter, she told him: “You’re not going to Westeros – you’re staying here with the Second Sons.

“There’s finally peace in Meereen. You will keep the peace while the people choose their own leaders.”

Daario did not like this idea but he couldn’t say no to his Khaleesi, so was forced to stay behind.

During the series, the pair were reasonably close as they carried out their love affair behind closed doors.

When Daenerys said she would need to get married in order for her to be able to form an alliance, he even suggested that she should bring him along as her paramour.

But actor Michiel Huisman was not the first to take on the role.

For the first few seasons, Daario was played by Ed Skrein up until in between seasons three and four where Michael took over.

Ed has gone on to star Deadpool, Malificent: Mistress of Evil and In Darkness.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ed said: “My plan was to stay with Game of Thrones for the long haul.

“That was always my plan. I would have loved to. It was a wonderful experience but politics led to us parting ways.

“And from there I just said ‘OK, look forward, be positive. Keep calm and carry on.’”
