Game of Thrones has finally come to an end on HBO and Sky Atlantic with fans finding out the fate of many beloved characters. However, some viewers are still left with questions over what the ending actually means for Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) after he’s sent to the Night’s Watch.

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Game of Thrones season 8

The Game of Thrones season eight finale was divisive among viewers with a number of questions left over the ending.

One of the spots of contention was the fate of Jon Snow, who was sent away to the wall after killing Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

In a compromise between the Starks and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) and the Unsullied, it was decided that Jon could not be put to death for his treason.

Instead, he was to be sent back to Castle Black, where he had spent many of the earlier seasons.

But thanks to the characters defeating the Night King (Vladimír Furdík) and the army of the dead earlier in season eight, viewers have been wondering what the point of the Wall actually is.

WILL THERE BE AN ARYA STARK GAME OF THRONES SPIN-OFF SERIES?

Traditionally The Night’s Watch is a military order dedicated to guarding the northern border of the Seven Kingdoms, the Wall.

It was built 8,000 years before Game of Thrones begins as a protection against the White Walkers.

However, as we know by the time it comes to the events of season one, the White Walkers are something of legend.

Instead, the real threat is against the Wildlings who have refused to be ruled by the Seven Kingdoms.

Some think that the reason that the Night’s Watch remains is that it’s not impossible that the White Walkers could return again.

There’s also the question of patching the Wall up again after the Night Army breached it to reach Winterfell.

Others think it’s simply become a place of exile, thanks to Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) response when Jon learns of his fate.

Jon asked Tyrion: “There’s still a Night’s Watch?”

“The world will always need a home for bastards and broken men,” Tyrion replied.

What’s more, at the end of the episode, viewers see Jon ride away with Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) and the Free Folk beyond the wall.

However, whether he is accompanying them on an outing or going to live with them is not clear.

But whatever the reason Jon finds himself back at Castle Black, it seems the character is content to be back up North.

WHY WASN’T TYRION MENTIONED IN A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE?
