Is Euron Greyjoy going to be the first to die the final season of Game Of Thrones?
Actor Pilou Asbæk, who plays Euron, has revealed in the past that his role on the show is ‘small’.
Having only been introduced in season six, if he gets killed off in season eight it really would be a small role.
He’s the bookies’ favourite to bite the dust first with odds of 1/33, followed by Varys at 1/12 and Jaime Lannister at 1/8 on Odds Monkey.
Euron is a ruthless fighter, but even he might not be able to stand up to the Night King and his hordes.
He decided to beat a hasty retreat after seeing the White Walkers for himself, but if they catch up to him on open water he might be in trouble.
While White Walkers can’t swim, the Night King now has the command of an Ice Dragon, and we have a feeling Euron’s ships might not be able to stand up to it.
However another fan theory suggests that Euron might be killed by a giant squid instead. Totally possible in Game Of Thrones.
If he does die in the final season, the Night King could have something to do with it.
However it does contradict recent research by an Australian university found that the characters most likely to survive are female, highborn and have changed their allegiances in the past.
Cersei Lannister and Arya and Sansa Stark fall into those three categories, and while Daenerys Targaryen is a highborn woman, her allegiances have been unwavering so far – but of course that could change in season eight.
So while Euron could meet his maker early on, we could be looking at the last woman standing by the time the show ends for good.
Speaking about the final season to Thrillist, Pilou said: ‘When I read all the scripts, I was blown away. I’m so happy and I’m so thankful. I’m so proud I got to be a part of something as big as Game of Thrones, and I think in so many ways, it will forever change my life.
‘Even though I have a small role, but nevertheless a significant one. And hopefully in Season 8, I’ll do enough monkey business to make an impact.
‘He’s a funny character. I honestly wish I had been able to come in earlier, and develop him much, much more than I was able to.’
Game Of Thrones returns in April 2019
