Hey, everyone! We have some news! Game of Thrones season 8 will debut sometime in 2019!

Oh, you already knew that? Okay.

Please pardon the sarcasm, but the timing here is a little funny. Due to comments from cast members, we’ve known that season 8 wouldn’t hit until next year for a while. Hard as that fact is to take, we’d made our peace with it. But today, HBO officially announced that the final season of the show will air “in 2019.”

That’s as specific as they get. There’s no date, month, or season. Keep guessing.

The press release also confirms the directors who will be working on the show. There’s David Nutter, the guy behind such tentpole episodes as “The Rains of Castamere” and “The Dance of Dragons.”  The season will also feature Miguel Sapochnik, the man responsible for excellent episodes like “Hardhome,” “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter.” Finally, creators and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will direct the series finale. Head here for a probably breakdown of which episodes Nutter and Sapochnik will direct.

Benioff and Weiss will also write some of the coming six episodes. The others will be handled by Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill, both of whom have worked on the show for years.

So…this is all information we knew, although it’s nice to have it direct from HBO. Please carry on with your day.
