The show which captured the hearts and minds of football fans around the world currently holds a 10.0 rating on IMDB.
In a statement released on his own website, George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones, The Ice Dragon) said:
‘I jumped at the chance to work on this modern-day masterpiece’.
‘I’m particularly looking forward to developing the Ed Woodward character and guiding him on his fruitless quest’.
It’s rumoured that Martin fought off stiff competition from Sopranos writer Terence Winter and a man claiming to be the reincarnation of J. R. R. Tolkien to land the role.
Meanwhile, viewers of the much-loved tale took to social media to express their joy at the news.
‘Personally, I thought the story had run its course but the appointment of George R. R. Martin has breathed new life into the project’, tweeted one fan.
‘The Ed Woodward character was becoming unrealistic. Who would believe that at a CEO would begin contract negotiations by offering Sancho a pay cut? I mean, come on. It’s just too farfetched’, he added.
Er, I appear to be that bloke. Sorry. Anyway, personal terms are agreed, and the time has come: United need to stop posing and start paying. If they do, and do it properly, Sancho will push for the move. If they don’t, it won’t happen.

‘I’m hoping George will lose the absurd subplot that Paul Pogba will sign a new contract. It’s just so ridiculous’, tweeted another.
‘Bring back the Roy Keane character. He was great. Remember that scene when he said Darren Fletcher was shit. That was the best’, said another.
It’s understood Martin will make some changes and will likely knock off the Jesse Lingard character in the next episode.

However, Lingard’s agent Mino Raiola said his client won’t be short of offers if that happens:
‘We’ve had several lucrative offers on the table. Hollyoaks are particularly keen to have Jesse on their show.
