Gemma Whelan hasn’t actually seen the Game of Thrones finale yet (Picture: HBO)

Gemma Whelan is yet to sit down and watch the Game of Thrones finale, despite being one of the few cast members from the past eight seasons who made it to the calamity that was The Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones ended in its lowest rated episode of all time, sparked an online petition signed by more than 1.5 million critics to be rewritten and was slammed by former cast members, receiving a particularly scathing review from Tywin Lannister star Charles Dance.

But if you want a verdict from Gemma, who starred as Yara Greyjoy in the fantasy epic, you’ll have to wait until she gets set up with the internet.

‘I haven’t watched the end yet, no,’ the 38-year-old admitted to Tim Lovejoy on Sunday Brunch.

‘I do know what happens. I came home and my husband was watching it and I saw the final bit but I haven’t seen most of the series yet, because we didn’t have internet in our house.’

It’s been three weeks, Gem!

Although, if you listen to fandom, perhaps she needn’t bother.

While showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff take the slack for the disappointing end game, which saw Bran Stark (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright) somehow claim the Six Kingdoms, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) go off on a cruise and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) banished to The Wall, the conclusion was George RR Martin’s plan all along.

‘David and Dan told me there were two things George RR Martin had planned for Bran – that was the Hodor revelation, and that he would be king,’ Isaac Hempstead Wright explained in Making Game of Thrones documentary, The Last Watch.

‘So that’s pretty special to be directly involved in something that is part of George’s vision. It was a really nice way to wrap it up.’

Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
