George R.R. Martin Acknowledges the Criticism
Martin anticipated the backlash to his latest announcement on his blog, Not A Blog, which was unrelated to Westeros, and directly addressed the complaints. He wrote, “I know, I know. Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or THE WINDS OF WINTER.” He went on to paraphrase the harshest criticisms he has received, including accusations that he has lost interest in writing, will never finish the book, or should let another writer complete it.

Despite the negativity, Martin made it clear that he still cares deeply about his work. “Thing is, I do care about them. And I care about Westeros and WINDS as well. The Starks and Lannisters and Targaryens, Tyrion and Asha, Dany and Daenerys, the dragons and the direwolves, I care about them all. More than you can ever imagine.”
No Timeline, But Continued Dedication
While Martin did not provide a timeline for The Winds of Winter, his words suggest that he remains committed to finishing the novel. He has previously stated that the book is progressing, though fans remain skeptical given the long wait. For now, readers will have to be patient and trust that Martin will deliver the next chapter in his epic saga when he is ready.
