The horrors of the COVID-19 pandemic don’t seem to end. The world has been suffering since the Red Wedding year 2020, and with the recent omicron variant on the rise, things are looking serious once again. We lost a lot of important people in the wretched year, but it doesn’t seem like the curse has loosened its grip yet. Every fandom looks forward to attending the San Diego Comic-Con every year, and it is being held for the first time since 2019 this year. However, everyone’s favorite author George R. R. Martin couldn’t attend the con this year, thanks to the new covid variant.

Martin was to appear in an exclusive panel for House of The Dragon today. He issued an apology on his blog Not A Blog:

We’re sad to report due to the high levels of the new variant of Covid that George has decided to cancel his in-person appearances at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

But there will be signatures will be floating around on the Comicon Floor. Please ask about signed copies of Fire and Blood at the Penguin Random House booth or at the Mysterious Galaxy booth. Plus we’ve gotten some limited edition posters featuring the first cover of the Marvel WildCards run coming out later this month. Please ask about how to acquire a poster at the Marvel booth.

We hope everyone has a great Con and again apologize for our cancelations.”
