The fandom is gearing up for House of the Dragon season 2 to premiere on June 16. In the meantime, George R. R. Martin has an update on his writing, and it’s more about Dunk & Egg stories, rather than the long-pending The Winds of Winter. GRRM apparently wants to write more Dunk & Egg stories after finishing The Winds of Winter.
George R.R. Martin wishes to complete The Winds of Winter before writing more Dunk & Egg stories
In the recent blog, Martin also shared that he is hoping to wrap up The Winds of Winter soon. This news comes as a relief to many fans as they have been waiting for the series to wrap up sooner. The last book in the series was released quite a long time ago. Hence, fans are anxious to know what happens next. Martin wrote in his blog,
“The show will make its debut next year… and if it does well, THE SWORN SWORD and THE MYSTERY KNIGHT will follow. By which time I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories (yes, after I finish THE WINDS OF WINTER).”
This is a welcoming update for fans of A Song of Ice and Fire series as The Winds of Winter will cap the series for good. The author is as excited as his fans are to close this chapter and move on to newer spinoff series that explore wider lengths and breadths of Westeros.

HBO is preparing for Dunk & Egg spinoff
Martin shared an update from a Reddit post where the actor who will be playing Egg in the Dunk & Egg spinoff shaved his head. This is to prepare for his role in the upcoming series. Martin is happy with the progress being made on the show. They have wrapped up most of the auditions for the spinoff series. The showrunners have concluded casting characters including Tanselle, Steely Pate, Baelor Breakspear, the Laughing Storm, a couple of Fossoways, Aerion Brightflame, and Prince Maekar.
He further expressed that a table read proved helpful in testing the chemistry between actors and how everyone fits in the world of Westeros. Moreover, the author revealed that this spinoff show would be different from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon since the tone is a bit unusual. Nonetheless, the setting of all shows is Westeros, so there is at least one common thread binding them all.
