George R. R. Martin is one of the most well-known authors working today, and his books are incredibly popular. Martin is renowned for drawing on historical events for his writing, as he did with Game of Thrones. Real-world events served as inspiration for the prequel series House of the Dragon as well, which is based on his novel Fire and Blood.

What inspired Fire and Blood?

Martin has always been open about events that influence his works. He told The Guardian in an earlier interview:

“My model for this was the four-volume history of the Plantagenets that Thomas B. Costain wrote in the 50s. It’s old‑fashioned history: he’s not interested in analyzing socioeconomic trends or cultural shifts so much as the wars and the assignations and the murders and the plots and the betrayals, all the juicy stuff. Costain did a wonderful job on the Plantagenets so I tried to do that for the Targaryens.”

When will Season 2 of House of the Dragon premiere?

Even though filming on the second season of the eagerly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel has just wrapped, post-production will continue for a few more months. Given that the WGA strikes are officially over, House of the Dragon Season 2 is presently targeting an early summer 2024 release.
