Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is one of the highly anticipated shows of 2022, and is currently a prime prospect for HBO’s plans to expand the Martinverse. However, the series is going to face tough competition in 2022, as the year has been marked for the release of several other promising shows, including Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series. It stars two Game of Thrones stars in lead roles, which also gives GoT fans something more to look forward to. However, Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin isn’t too impressed by Amazon’s efforts to bring the epic fantasy to reality.

Martin spoke to The Independent at the inaugural Santa Fe Literary Festival, where he talked about the upcoming Lord of The Rings prequel, The Rings of Power. He said, “It’s kind of a weird deal, as you know. Amazon bought Tolkien, but they didn’t actually get any of the books.”

He continued, “They didn’t get Lord of the Rings, they didn’t get The Hobbit, they didn’t even get The Silmarillion. I don’t think they got Farmer Giles of Ham or Leaf by Niggle, but they got the appendices, I guess, and they’re constructing a Second Age story about that. There’s a lot of myth about that, so it’ll be interesting to see what they did.”
