George RR Martin – the author of epic series of books ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ is literally the father of Game of Thrones series. It is because of him the series came out to be so lively which was a total fantasy – an idea born in his head.
And, maybe that many fans criticize him for killing off their favorite characters and of course, not completing ‘The Winds of Winter’, still his role in making the show a major hit can’t be ignored! Here are the thoughts of the author on topics like his book series, Trump, and more based on an article shared by the New York Times recently.
In the article, Charles Yu mentions some quotes from George like what inspired him to quit the job of a teacher and taking up writing as a full-time career in 1977. It was after the death of the 44-year-old fellow author and a close friend – Tim Reamy. George says, “I thought, ‘Do I have all the time in the world? I want to write all these stories.’” With this thought, he moved to Santa Fe and so his literary journey began.
Well, J.R.R. Tolkien’s work – ‘Lord of the Rings’ which is a fantasy book series just like ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, has been a huge inspiration for George. Being a huge fan himself, he mentions,
“Sometimes it feels like I’m criticizing Tolkien when I talk about this stuff, but my admiration for him is huge. Nonetheless, sometimes I feel I’m in dialogue with Tolkien.”
“Tolkien wanted to do a mythology for England…I wanted to make my world more complete and more realistic. Tolkien says, after the end of ‘Lord of the Rings,’ ‘Aragorn [one of the primary protagonists] is the king and he ruled wisely and well for a hundred years,’ or whatever, but what does that actually mean?”
“Many good men through history have been terrible kings. Many bad men have been good kings. Of course, now we live in a time where we have a bad man who is also a bad president.”
You see, he clearly talks about President Trump here. Previously, George revealed that the TV series could have lasted for at least thirteen seasons with the amount of material and storylines the book has. Moreover, George also revealed his views on politics, climate change, and more in another Q&A with the New York Times. Watch the video below:
