George RR Martin will officially never appear in Game Of Thrones after he had to turn down the opportunity for a cameo.
Ever since the Westeros fantasy emerged on our screens, fans have been eagerly waiting to see if the creator of the epic would drop by to live in his own world for real, even as a cameo.
Turns out that he was offered the opportunity, but George himself has confirmed that it just wasn’t meant to be.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the mysterious author wrote: ‘David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do.
‘But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.’
The countdown is officially on with only a month and a half to go until the final six episodes start airing.
After keeping us in the dark for almost a year, HBO have been spoiling us with the sudden pile-on of goodies to keep us happy for the next few weeks.
With the first proper sneak peek at Arya seeing dragons for the first time in the HBO showreel, we’ve now been given a look at all the major players trying their luck on the Iron Throne in a teaser.
It means that we’re breaking down every single detail we can, and with a million different fan theories making their way around the internet, you have to ask – who can you really believe?
George has been known before to say things to throw us off the scent – maybe this is just another one of his final pranks before he pops up and blows our minds in the series finale.
Guess only time will tell (can’t you just tell us now though?)
Game Of Thrones returns 14 April on Sky Atlantic and HBO.
