Game of Thrones author George RR Martin has been sneaking Muppets references into his books.
When you play the game of thrones, you fight or you die…or you give everyone the crossover they never knew they needed.
The latest book in the author’s series, Fire and Blood, was released on 20 November and eagle-eyed fans have noticed some pretty unusual references.
The most obvious is a mention of a certain Kermit Tully, Lord of Riverrun.
The book also mentions Oscar Tully, describing him as ‘greener, and cursed with the sort of prickly pride so common in second sons’, which seems to be a reference to Sesame Street’s Oscar the Grouch.
To make things even more bizarre, there’s a reference in his 2014 book to Elmo and Grover Tully.
As strange as the pairing is, it seems it’s been the crossover that fans have been waiting for.
‘We need Game of Thrones muppets. I just imagined Miss Piggy as Cersei & now I need it to be real,’ one fan tweeted.
Another simply wrote: ‘Game of Thrones but with the Muppets.’
Highly relatable.
The Muppets crossover will be giving Game of Thrones fans some much needed joy after George gave a pretty grim update about his next book.
Speaking to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he admitted that A Dream of Spring is still in the works and could be a long way off.
‘First I have to finish Winds of Winter,’ George admitted.
Teasing which book he’ll be working on next, he added: ‘Maybe [it will be] A Dream of Spring, maybe more Dunk and Egg stories. There’s a lot of stuff to write.’
No kidding, George. But, as Kermit would say, that’s none of our business.
