For one last time this year, HBO has released a series of videos taking a close look at the latest episode. What do the cast and crew think about “The Dragon and the Wolf?”

First, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss explain their thinking behind pretty much every important scene from the episode, including Arya executing Littlefinger, the attempt to convince Cersei to accept a truce, Jaime leaving Cersei, finding out about Jon’s legitimacy, and the fall of the Wall.

Dan Weiss: “Just as we’re seeing these two people come together, we’re hearing the information that will inevitably if not tear them apart, at least cause real problems in their relationship. And she’s his aunt.” You know your relationship has issues when “and she’s his aunt” is an afterthought.

Next, the cast and crew members take a deep dive into the scene at the Dragonpit. There are tons of characters and perspectives in that scene, so it’s well-deserving of a 13-minute mini-documentary.

Lots of great little nuggets in there.

  • It’s great hearing Daniel Portman talk about Podrick’s regard for Tyrion. We could always use more Podrick.
  • The Hound was indeed relieved to hear that Arya was okay.
  • Did we all notice the little bit where Cersei watches Brienne watching Jaime? The small moments in this scene were great!
  • Emilia Clarke: “I take fashionably late to brand new heights.”
  • We even get a perspective from Anton Lesser (Qyburn), who’s excited by the prospect of experimenting on zombies.

Finally, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage and Isaac Hempstead Wright talk about Jon and Dany finally hooking up. As usual, Clarke has the most delightful reactions.

The most interesting thing here is probably Dinklage’s point of view. We wondered why Tyrion looked concerned as Dany and Jon boned. Apparently, he’s worried about this romance ending like the others on this show, which is to say, in blood.

Finally, HBO has released a clip from “The Dragon and the Wolf.” It’s the final scene where the Night King tears down the Wall.

I love Viserion’s undead scream and I will be really upset if Tormund and Beric survived that. That is all.
