When Jon Snow died at the end of season five, we were all in denial.
Surely Game of Thrones wouldnât actually kill off the showâs hero; even though theyâd done it several times already.
It turns out then President of the United States Barack Obama felt the same as the rest of the world when the plot twist was aired in 2015, interrogating director David Nutter about Snowâs untimely death when the pair ran into each other at a party.
âHe turned to me, put his hand on my shoulder, and said, âyou didnât kill Jon Snow did you? You keep killing off my favourite characters!ââ Nutter recalled.
Of course we all know now Snow is very much alive, Melisandre resurrecting him at the beginning of season six. But Nutter did not want to take the chance of easing Obamaâs woes to inform him of his favourite characterâs impending return.

âI said, âJon Snow is deader than deadâ,â the director recalls.
âI thought I was going to be sent to Guantanamo or something, but fortunately Iâm here â but heâs dead.â
Co-creator David Benioff mused when asked about the lie, telling Foxtel magazine: âHe actually lied to the President of the United States!â
But Kit Harington â who plays Snow â was not happy being deceitful, saying: âThat was not my favourite season, telling all those lies and hiding from everyone.â
As a self-professed GoT tragic, Obama will be joining the rest of the world when the eighth and final season premieres, airing on Foxtel express from the US on Monday April 15 at 11am.
HBO just released its second full-length Game of Thrones trailer dubbed âAftermathâ, which basically hinted that everyone dies.
None of the characters are featured in it. Just Winterfell completely destroyed, with possessions belonging to all of our favourite heroes scattered among the abandoned snowy battlefield.
The network has also released a new GoT poster that shows all of the charactersâ lifeless bodies forming the shape of the Iron Throne. They captioned it: âThe great war was here.â

In the one-minute trailer, Jon Snowâs sword âLongclawâ and Arya Starkâs beloved sword âNeedleâ are among the ruins.
We can also see Jaime Lannisterâs gold hand, Bran Starkâs wheelchair and Tyrion Lannisterâs Hand of the King pin.
Too obvious? We will soon find out.
