Game of Thrones‘ ending should’ve come as no surprise to longtime fans, says Tyrion Lannister actor Peter Dinklage.
In the season 8 finale, dragon-wielding Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) was murdered by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) following her vengeful destruction of King’s Landing, which led him to being exiled at the Night’s Watch.
Talking to The Independent, Dinklage went on to hint that Daenerys’ (aka Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea) dark turn was spelled out for us across the series.

“I know a lot of people were supposedly surprised by the ending, but if you paid attention, the clues were there,” he claimed. “We told you not to name your dog Khaleesi.”
Further on, the American megastar also shared a few words of wisdom for the makers of upcoming Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon.
“If you try to recreate it, that feels like a money grab. With a lot of sequels, the reason for them is that the first one made a lot of money, which is why they aren’t as strong.”

While we’re on the subject, Thrones original author George RR Martin was recently treated to a screening of its opening episode.
“I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy,” he wrote on his blog.
“Ryan [J Condal] and Miguel [Sapochnik] have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with Game of Thrones, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them. (Only to have your heart broken later when… but no, that would be telling).
“I think the Targaryens are in very good hands.”
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. Spin-off House of the Dragon will premiere in 2022.
