This is a video on the rarely used hand-sling casting method for casting jewelry. My fiance and I are casting our wedding bands together by hand here. This is a cheap and somewhat effective way to cast your own jewelry at home for under 50$. Please be careful when you are melting your own metals at home and be cautious of where molten metal will go while you are swinging if you use too much.

Material list: Jewelry carving wax:5-10$
Jewelry investment (plaster): 15$ (for 2kg)
Metal flask for mold and holder (cylinders) :5$ each
2 1/2in. dia. and 4in. dia
Above can be found at Riogrande.com
6-10 ga. wire from any hardware store: 10$

Skip to 04:49 for casting and 05:32 for Haley’s casting at dusk

  1. Well there's something ya don't see every day. You know satincast is porous right? That investment works best when you pull a vacuum on it. Harbor freight sells a cheap vac pump and you won't have to sling jewelry in the yard. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials. check this out https://youtu.be/B62i7XeSPNg?t=25m43s Note the pump sucking on the flask. No swinging, the metal gets sucked in perfectly everytime. Best part is you don't need an expensive vacuum table.

  2. I'm going to try this out for sure. Also liking the idea of one large sprue rather than many small ones. Thanks for posting. Also – congrats! cheers to you!!! It's very cool that your woman got to sling her own molten metal into the mold for the ring. It's so much more meaningful and significant that way. Nice work…thanks for sharing.
