The Harvard Lampoon turns its sights on Game of Thrones in Lame of Thrones: The Final Book in a Song of Hot and Cold. We talk to them about their new book.
Game of Thrones might have come to an end over a year ago, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped talking about what was once the world’s most popular show. Case in point: the Harvard Lampoon, America’s oldest continuously published comedy series, recently turned its sights on Westeros, parodying Game of Thrones in a new book: Lame of Thrones: The Final Book in a Song of Hot and Cold.
For those unfamiliar with the Harvard Lampoon, it’s produced big-name comedy writers like David Mandel (Veep, Seinfield), B.J. Novak (The Office) and Conan O’Brien, just to name a few. In the past, the Lampoon has parodied everything from The Lord of the Rings (Bored of the Rings) to The Hunger Games (The Hunger Pains). Lame of Thrones carries on that tradition, following the NSFW adventures of characters like Jon Dough, Dennys (Dany), Beerion and more as they compete to sit in the “Pointy Chair.”
The book is mainly a funny rewrite of the final three seasons of the show, starting with Jon Dough’s resurrection, which happens five times. The authors parody pretty much every moment of seasons 6, 7 and 8 — they clearly know their stuff. We spoke with three of them: Jack Stovitz, Mike Miller and Juan Arenas.
Which character was easiest to write? What was George R.R. Martin’s reaction to the book (he makes a few “appearances,” by the way)? And so on. Enjoy!
Lame of Thrones is a fun jaunt for Game of Thrones fans, and perhaps just the palate cleanser many of them need after the show’s controversial ending. The pages are bursting with jokes; if you don’t like one there’s another one coming later in the sentence, and then a bunch after that.
Lame of Thrones is now available wherever, or however, you purchase your books, including on Amazon.
