On Friday, Trump tweeted a meme that said âSanctions Are Coming,â inspired by the showâs ubiquitous âWinter Is Comingâ tag line. The tweet was meant to announce that the U.S. will re-impose sanctions on Iran on Monday, after Trumpâs decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal brokered by the Obama administration.
âWe were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes,â HBO said in a statement responding to Trumpâs tweet.
The network and at least two of the showâs stars also expressed their disapproval on Twitter.
