For a few years now, Donald Trump’s Twitter feed has been one of the most hot-button areas of the internet, with the president regularly tweeting something incendiary or strange and people regularly reacting with outrage, confusion and other emotions up and down the spectrum. With the amount of controversy this feed stirs up, we’re probably all better off ignoring it.

On an unrelated topic, President Trump tweeted about Game of Thrones today and we’re talking it:

This is probably a reference to Trump reinstating sanctions against Iran that were lifted during Barack Omaba’s tenure as president. Entertainment Weekly reached out to HBO for comment, and the network was not amused:

We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes.

Game of Thrones cast members, meanwhile, were less diplomatic. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) replied almost immediately:

Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) was even more direct:

You gotta love brevity.

This is far from the first time people have rebuked President Trump for using their creations without permission — Pharrell Williams, the Rolling Stones, Adele, REM and others have all asked that Trump stop using their songs at his rallies, although so far there’s been no response. I doubt HBO will sway him away from using Game of Thrones catch phrases, either, but no one can sustain an objection you don’t make, so on and on it goes.

Part of me is exhausted even mentioning Trump’s Twitter account, and part of me is fascinated by the way Game of Thrones has wormed its way in to the world of politics. As proof, just the other day, British elected officials Pete Wishart and Andrea Leadsom argued about Brexit in the House of Commons, and the Thrones references flew fast and loose:

See what I mean? The show’s subject matter dovetails so nicely with their work that politicians can’t help but bring it up. That said, let’s hope we don’t have to talk about Trump’s Twitter account here for a good long while.
