Casey Bloys comments on the state of Game of Thrones shows, and if we will get more
Game of Thrones has always been a profitable IP for HBO. This is why we have a number of branched shows from George R.R. Martin’s brainchild. Reflecting on the state of the various spinoff shows, HBO exec Casey Bloys said at the preview of his portfolio’s 2025 slate (via Variety),
“I think about ‘How many good Game of Thrones shows are there?’ These are the only we’ve felt could go the distance. There’s no blinking green lights on any others right now.”
This also covers the recently disclosed film, which Bloys confirmed is still in the development phase under Warner Bros chiefs Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdy, as well as the canceled Jon Snow spinoff featuring Kit Harington. However, Bloys mentioned he is willing to reconsider the latter in the future. Regarding the unnamed movie, he said,
“They’re going to develop idea. We’ll see if it’s good. We’ll read the scripts along with them. I think it could be fun and interesting. I mean, that’s the point of development, you see is there a story that’s worthy of being in theaters and a big spectacle? I think it would be fun.”
Regarding the newest update on the upcoming show A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, he stated that it ‘represents a tonal shift. “By design, we have taken a lighter tone,” he said. “It’s very different from the previous two series.”
This goes in line with paparazzi’s reaction to a new trailer that was shown at the event. X user Jeff Conway reported that the trailer was really funny, a departure from Westeros’ otherwise serious world.

HBO wants to continue its partnership with George R.R. Martin
George R.R. Martin recently caused a whirlwind after the revelation of how HBO is planning to deviate more from his established lore. Bloys spoke on the issue, assuring fans that they do want to continue working with Martin,
“We love George, obviously. I want him to be happy. He’s very important to us. But when we put shows together, we’re putting marriages together. Marriage can be difficult, especially in the creative decisions of adapting work. Sometimes it gets rocky. Would I prefer that everybody get along? Of course, but it’s a creative process.”
