HBO is currently sending Game of Thrones fans on a worldwide scavenger hunt to find six Iron Thrones scattered around the globe. They’re calling it the Quest for the Throne campaign.
The first throne was hidden in a wood and the second in an icy tundra. Both have been found, with a couple of fans coming upon the snowy throne just yesterday:
For their trouble, the successful questers are presented with a crown! If that isn’t incentive enough to find these things, I don’t know what is.
Now, HBO has unveiled not one but TWO new thrones. The first, the “Throne of Joy,” is located on a hill, with a crumbling palace in the distance. As always, HBO has put up three videos of the throne, one taken at dawn…
…one during the day…
…and one at dusk:
Now, I don’t think HBO is trying hard enough with this throne because I’m pretty sure I know where it is. It’s near the Castillo de Zafra in Guadalajara, Spain, where the show filmed the fight at the Tower of Joy:
If you live in the area, go see if it’s there! UPDATE: Nope! Apparently this throne is at the Castle of Atienza near Madrid, which only looks like the Castillo de Zafra. Thanks to Erik on Twitter for the correction! Either way: throne found.
The next one is a little tricker. The “Throne of Valyria” is located in a rocky, sandy place. Again, we have a dawn cam…
…a day cam…
…and a dusk cam:
Anyone recognize this place? It kind of looks like where Daenerys gave her speech to the Dothraki from atop Drogon in season 6, but I’m not sure where that is. Somewhere else in Spain is a good bet.
Happy hunting!
