House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres on June 16. Max subscribers are rushing to the site to see if their subscription is active and renewing them to view the episodes as soon as they release. Max, formerly HBO Max, saw this as an opportunity to jack up their prices and usher in more money for their platform.
Given how House of the Dragon is WBD’s marquee property, it comes as no surprise that the streaming platform is taking full advantage of the latest season.

Max raises subscription price, effective immediately
The news of streaming platforms ballooning up their prices is not the latest phenomenon. Ever since the pandemic hit, streaming platforms have realized how crucial they are in offering end-to-end entertainment to consumers. With such a powerful hand, the platforms have had no trouble in marking their territory.
Executives at Max know that people are way too excited to binge the latest season and hence, will stop at nothing to get the answers they seek. With a massive war looming across the horizon, Max is going to squeeze every last drop of benefit from the release of House of the Dragon season 2 release.
While this may seem like a smart move in the short term, Max is bound to lose subscribers in the long run. This is because once House of the Dragon ends, people who subscribed just for that will probably unsubscribe. On the other hand, Max perhaps suceeds in retaining the subscribers only if it releases more suitable content for its subscribers in the coming few months.
There has been no doubt over HBO’s ability to churn out entertaining content. However, the price point has always been an issue. In the fractional streaming platform market, time will tell if HBO succeeds in retaining its subscriber base.
Revised Max subscription prices
Max has jacked up their ad-free service prices with the House of the Dragon season 2 just around the corner. The monthly plan has been increased from $15.99 to $16.99. Moreover, the annual plan has gone up from $149.99 to $169.99.
